The American Diabetes Association has designated November as American Diabetes Month. Early detection can reduce risks from the disease. More than 15 million Americans are thought to have diabetes, but as many as one third of those who do more than five million may not know it.
 
Diabetes afflicts W.Va. mothers
More West Virginia women with diabetes are giving birth, causing an increase in pregnancy complications, Cesarean sections and hospital costs, according to a report expected to be released today.
 
Diabetes on the Rise
West Virginia's high rate of obesity is being blamed for a huge increase of pregnant women developing diabetes. A new report by the state Bureau for Public Health says the number of pregnant women with type 2 diabetes jumped from 38 in 2000 to 96 in 2005, an increase of 153 percent.
 
Insulin-producing islets from living donors may revolutionise diabetes treatment
Washington, November 27: The shortage of pancreatic cells that create insulin (also called islets cells) for transplantation can be dealt with by obtaining islet cells from living donors, according to a study in Clinical Transplantation.
