WORLD Diabetes Day celebrations were held two weeks ago at the National Diabetes Centre, on Waimanu Road, in Suva.Diabetes is now affecting children and is on the rise, says chairman of Fiji National Diabetes Foundation, Mahendra Motibhai Patel.
In Fiji one in five people was a diabetic or had the potential to contract diabetes, he said. Mr Patel said type two diabetes was now affecting children. Type two diabetes is non-insulin dependant and is closely associated with obesity and was previously associated with middle age.
