Advocate to host diabetes education program
HAZEL CREST | Holiday eating can wreak havoc on anyone’s diet, but the effects can be particularly damaging for diabetics. In recognition of National Diabetes Awareness Month and the impending holiday season, Advocate South Suburban Hospital is hosting a diabetes education program to provide information about the disease and its management.

The program, called “The many faces of diabetes,” will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium at Advocate South Suburban Hospital, 17800 S. Kedzie in Hazel Crest. The free program will include both lectures and glucose screenings. Fasting is not required for the screenings.

The lecture portion of the program will feature diabetes patient champion Loretha Huff. Huff is living with diabetes and will offer advice and support for attendees who may be newly diagnosed and are adjusting to the new lifestyle brought on by their disease. Certified diabetes educator Andrea Williams will speak on a number of topics including what is diabetes, management of the disease, treatment options and the role of genetics in diabetes.
