Children Learn How To Handle Diabetes Diagnosis
Saturday's wintry weather didn't stop children diagnosed with diabetes and their families from learning more about the disease.

Camp Hertko Hollow, Iowa's camp for kids with diabetes, is hosting a Diabetes fair this weekend.

It teaches kids with diabetes how to better manage and control the disease and it offers parents a change to talk with other parents for support.

Some of the topic covered include carb counting, insulin injections and glucose monitoring.

Organizers say it's a chance for kids to learn from other kids going through a similar situation.

Jen Dean, Camp Hertko Hollow, says "But, it's very effective in diabetes management to keep going back and learning the treatments and seeing what other people are doing and how other people are treating their diabetes... what their numbers are like... if they're having any side effects."

Saturday's program was held at the Long Lines Family Rec Center, giving participants the chance to try the rock climbing wall. Sunday's diabetes fair will take place at the Clarion Hotel from 8-11 in the morning.
