Prevent and Treat Diabetes
IMPORTANCE OF EXERCISE IN CONTROLLING DIABETES
Regular exercise is especially important for a person with diabetes. It helps with blood sugar control, weight loss, and high blood pressure. People with diabetes who exercise are less likely to experience a heart attack or stroke than diabetics who not exercise regularly. Exercise, generally helps control blood glucose levels because exercising muscle cells use more sugar and oxygen than those at rest. Exercise also helps insulin to work better.

Holiday Hazards for Diabetics

For anyone, the tempting treats that are part and parcel of the holiday season are a thing to be avoided in excess — from sugary, decorated cookies to free-flowing New Year's champagne.

But for those with diabetes, avoiding these indulgences takes on special importance. Face it: Many of the finger foods and holiday treats served at your typical get-together are loaded with sugar and fat. In addition to their overall caloric intake, those with diabetes must keep a close eye on what they eat — and how much of it they eat — to avoid potentially dangerous fluctuations in their blood sugar levels.

What is Diabetes?

The word diabetes, meaning “Siphon” was first given by the Greek physician Arateus in the 2nd century describe patients with great thirst and excessive variation. In the 17the century, it was observed that urine of diabetic patients was sweet, so the word mellitus, meaning ‘honey honey’ was added to it. The sweet urine of diabetics is due to increased blood sugar level which leads to spillage of glucose into the urine. The sweet urine of diabetic individuals attracts various flies, bees, ants, etc. Hence, Diabetes mellitus is a clinical disorder in which blood sugar levels are abnormally high known as Hyperglycaemia.

WHAT CAUSES DIABETES?
Diabetes mellitus is the condition in which there is hyperglycemia, i.e. an excess of sugar in the bloodstream. This increase in the blood sugar level occurs due to the malfunctioning of the pancreas, which secretes insulin. Insulin is the hormone that controls the sugar level in the blood. Without insulin, sugar will accumulate in the blood, leading to diabetes mellitus.
The condition develops quite suddenly and the factors that cause it to occur are not very well known. However, the following factors are investigated thoroughly to be causative for the disease:-

Diabetes, Depression and Death

Startling statistics are only one reason sufferers should get help and why research into this lethal combination must continue.  On the list of deadly diseases in the United States, diabetes ranks fifth. Depression isn't typically cited among them. But it should be.
